Aadhaar Number as per clause (a) of section 2 of Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016

(a) “Aadhaar number” means an identification number issued to an individual under sub-section (3) of section 3;

Section 3.

(1) Every resident shall be entitled to obtain an Aadhaar number by submitting his demographic information and biometric information by undergoing the process of enrolment: Provided that the Central Government may, from time to time, notify such other category of individuals who may be entitled to obtain an Aadhaar number.

(2) The enrolling agency shall, at the time of enrolment, inform the individual undergoing enrolment of the following details in such manner as may be specified by regulations, namely:— (a) the manner in which the information shall be used; (b) the nature of recipients with whom the information is intended to be shared during authentication; and (c) the existence of a right to access information, the procedure for making requests for such access, and details of the person or department in-charge to whom such requests can be made.

 

(3) On receipt of the demographic information and biometric information under sub-section (1), the Authority shall, after verifying the information, in such manner as may be specified by regulations, issue an Aadhaar number to such individual.

2 Adoption as per clause (2) of section 2 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 (2) "adoption" means the process through which the adopted child is permanently separated from his biological parents and becomes the lawful child of his adoptive parents with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities that are attached to a biological child.
3 Disaster as per clause (d) of section 2 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 (d) “disaster” means a catastrophe, mishap, calamity or grave occurrence in any area, arising from natural or man made causes, or by accident or negligence which results in substantial loss of life or human suffering or damage to, and destruction of, property, or damage to, or degradation of, environment, and is of such a nature or magnitude as to be beyond the coping capacity of the community of the affected area.

Specialised Adoption Agency as per clause (57) of section 2 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015

(57) “Specialised Adoption Agency” means an institution established by the State Government or by a voluntary or non-governmental organisation and recognised under section 65, for housing orphans, abandoned and surrendered children, placed there by order of the Committee, for the purpose of adoption.

5 Abandoned child” as per clause (1) of section 2 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015

(1) “abandoned child” means a child deserted by his biological or adoptive parents or guardians, who has been declared as abandoned by the Committee after due inquiry.

6 Child care institution as per clause (21) of section 2 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 (21) “child care institution” means Children Home, open shelter, observation home, special home, place of safety, Specialised Adoption Agency and a fit facility recognised under this Act for providing care and protection to children, who are in need of such services.
7 Orphan as per clause (42) of section 2 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 (42) “orphan” means a child—
(i) who is without biological or adoptive parents or legal guardian; or
(ii) whose legal guardian is not willing to take, or capable of taking care of the child;

Surrendered child as per clause (42) of section 2 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015

(60) “surrendered child” means a child, who is relinquished by the parent or guardian to the Committee, on account of physical, emotional and social factors beyond their control, and declared as such by the Committee.

Surrogacy  as per clause (zd) of section 2 of the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021

(zd) “surrogacy” means a practice whereby one woman bears and gives birth to a child for an intending couple with the intention of handing over such child to the intending couple after the birth.

Surrogacy clinic  as per clause (ze) of section 2 of the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2022

(ze) “surrogacy clinic” means surrogacy clinic, centre or laboratory, conducting assisted reproductive technology services, invitro fertilisation services, genetic counselling centre, genetic laboratory, Assisted Reproductive Technology Banks conducting surrogacy procedure or any clinical establishment, by whatsoever name called, conducting surrogacy procedures in any form.
